The artist was educated at Trent college Derbyshire, Walford School of Art and Heatherly's, also studying under Bernard Adams and Sir John Arnesby Brown R.A.  He was appointed art master at The Royal Masonic Junior School Bushey in 1929.  Elected into the R.S.M.A., he began exhibiting with the Omell Gallery of Albermale Street, London
