Wildlife artist, John Seerey-Lester travels the world extensively to study wildlife in its natural habitat so that he may paint those subjects which he has seen firsthand. A resident of Florida's West Coast, Seerey-Lester was born in Manchester, England, and studied art at Salford Technical College in Lancashire, England. He worked in the fields of advertising and publishing before becoming a professional artist, and in 1980, after his first trip to East Africa, Seerey-Lester found his passion for wildlife. It was then that he decided to paint images of the natural world, and two years later, he moved to the United States.

Seerey-Lester has been honored with many awards. A one-man sell-out show in Great Britain, opened by renowned ornithologist and artist Sir Peter Scott, was held on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund. Seerey-Lester was also commended by His Royal Highness The Prince Philip for his wildlife conservation efforts. He has been selected to exhibit in the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's prestigious "Birds in Art" and "Wildlife: An Artist's View" shows each year since 1983. Seerey-Lester was honored as Ducks Unlimited Canada's artist for their 50th Anniversary stamp and print program in 1988. The popular book of his art entitled, Face to Face with Nature: The Art of John Seerey-Lester, published by Mill Pond Press in 1991, sold out in 1995.

Seerey-Lester devotes much time and attention to the preservation of wilderness and wildlife. Many of his paintings and limited edition prints have aided nonprofit conservation organizations.

British artist John Seerey-Lester is internationally recognized for his paintings depicting East African as well as North American wildlife. Not only is his work recognized world-wide for his depiction of large mammals and birds of prey, but his skill and unmistakable style have become easily identifiable to art fans, novices and experts alike. John was born in Manchester, England where he grew up with a sketchbook in hand. He became a professional artist in 1974, initially painting portraits and nostalgic scenes of English urban life.

It was in 1980, after making his first trip to East Africa, that John began painting images of the natural world. His respect for the work of fellow English artist, David Shepherd, heavily influenced his decision to travel to Africa and paint wildlife. This trip became a turning point in his career.

Since his first Africa trip, John has traveled all over the world in search of the magnificent wildlife he portrays on canvas. He prefers to paint only wildlife subjects he has seen first hand. He has traveled to most parts of Canada, Alaska, China, Africa, Antarctica, South and Central America, India and Nepal.

John has received numerous awards and much recognition for his outstanding achievements in the field of wildlife art. He was presented to His Royal Highness Prince Phillip and was commended for his work in conservation. The multiple award-winning artist is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the Society for Wildlife for the Nation in the United Kingdom.

A book on his life and work, Face to Face with Nature: The Art of John Seerey-Lester, was published by Mill Pond Press and released in November 2001. A second book titled Impressions of India and Nepal, based on his fieldwork there, was published soon after.  His latest book is, Painting Wildlife with John Seerey-Lester.
