Max Martens

Max Martens (1887 - 1970) was active/lived in Germany.  Max Martens is known for Landscape painting.

Max Martens was a German landscape painter born in 1887 in Braunschweig. He studied at the Braunschweig School of Applied Arts and later at the teaching institute at the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin. He worked as a church painter and craftsman in various cities before turning to landscape painting in 1918. He had his first stay in Gstadt am Chiemsee in 1928 and subsequently had regular stays there. He was a member of the Reich Association of German Artists and the Lower Saxony Artists' Association. He was sent to the Great German Art Exhibition in the House of German Art in Munich from 1938-44. He was bombed out in Munich in 1943 and relocated to Gstadt am Chiemsee. In 1948, he was a founding member of the "Notgemeinschaft Bildender Künstler Gstadt", which later renamed itself to the "Gemeinschaft Bildender Künstler Chiemsee". He served as its chairman from 1956-69. He was known for his landscape paintings. He died in 1970 in Gstadt/Chiemsee.
