Robert Burton Middaugh was born on May 12, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and worked as a draftsman and mapmaker at the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1964 with a BA in Fine Arts and became a professional artist. He was the curator of the art collection of the First National Bank of Chicago from 1971 to 1983 and later became the archivist for the City of Chicago Park District until his retirement. His artwork is featured in several major museums and numerous corporate and private collections.
