Hippos are animals that are full of character and can sometimes look quite comical and ungainly when out of water but change the instant they are in the water, becoming almost graceful in their movements. They are also among the most dangerous animals in Africa as I almost found while canoeing down the Zambezi river in Zambia... but that is another story!”

"The Siberian or Amur Tiger is my favourite of all the big cats to paint. The largest of all the Big cats, it resembles the Bengal Tiger in its general aspect but there is more white in the striking patterns of the head and on the underbelly. The orange colour of the cat is more 'old gold' than 'fire orange,' and for an artist it is a delight to paint these colours against a background of snow."
