Georg Eisler (1928 - 1998) was active/lived in Austria.  Georg Eisler is known for Figure and portrait painting.

The Vienna-born artist, Georg Eisler (1928-1998), emigrated in 1936 with his mother from Moscow and Prague to England, where he studied at the Stockport School of Art and the Manchester Academy of Arts.  In 1944 he met Oskar Kokoschka in London, who also gave him lessons.  After his return to Vienna in 1946 Eisler also visited evening classes at the Academy.  During his life the artist got several lectureships and visiting professorships in Europe and the USA. 

The core theme of his work is the human being whom he depicted individually in portraits or as a crowd of people in city and street scenes.  But also landscapes origin repeatedly.  In addition Eisler designed sets and costumes for productions at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London and at the Schauspielhaus Graz.

His paintings are represented in collections of international museums, including the Albertina, Vienna, Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, the Musée d'Art modern in Pari   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1031 characters.]  Artist bio
