Jan Preisler was born in the family working in the iron moulders in Dvur King  He attended a municipal school in Charles Hut at Popovic. From childhood he was a loner, he enjoyed observing nature and the elements. The town school in Beroun piqued their private plots and drawings. Headmaster Kozel, a professor at Brno Technical Rehorovský and MP Neumann, art lovers, called Preislerová parents through letters, to give the boy to study in Prague, and guarantee that it will be financially supported. The proposal was also supported by Emil Kratochvil, director of ironworks in the King's court, where he worked Preisleruv father.

So in 1887 , when he was 15, he went to Prague to study at the School of Applied Arts , which was led by Francis Zenisek , later in this school he taught himself.
