Oscar Garcia Reino

Oscar Garcia Reino (1910 - 1993) was active/lived in Uruguay.  Oscar Reino is known for Abstract, portrait, marine and figure painting.

Óscar García Reino was born in Montevideo on February 10, 1907. He studied painting and sculpture with masters Guillermo Laborde and Severino Pose at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, and later with Carlos Prevosti at the Escuela Taller de Artes Plásticas. He attended the Composition courses of Cecilia Marcovich.

In 1934 he exhibited oil paintings and drawings for the first time in "Amigos del Arte". The following year he participated in a collective exhibition of sculptures.

In 1951 he was appointed Advisor to the Ministry of Education and in that capacity he served that same year as Curator of the Uruguayan delegation to the First Bienal de Sao Paulo.

Between 1956 and 1958 he studied tapestry as a UNESCO scholar at Les Gobelins in Paris (where he composed the first abstract tapestry of that school) and at the School of Decorative Arts in Brussels.
