Mohamed Bennani

Mohamed Bennani (1943 - 2023) was active/lived in Morocco.  Mohamed Bennani is known for Painting.

Mohamed Bennani, known as MOA, a visual artist and sculptor, died after completing a monumental commission in homage to Pierre Soulages. A graduate of the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan, his native city, he studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1960 to 1964.

"I don't paint reality, I paint the expression of reality" he said, and not wishing to be a copyist of this reality, the figurative will tempt him little outside of his apprenticeship period. What obsesses him is the matter, that he will want to break, to crush, to shatter, in order to extract the meaning and to reveal the mysteries of it.

Moa Bennani's palette is tinged with blue, ochre, white, and black, later accidentally with red, without aggressiveness but tinged with a softness emanating from the material.

Moa's work has been exhibited several times in Morocco and abroad. His canvases as well as his immense frescoes embellish a large number of prestigious public and private buildings.
