Gwen O'Dowd was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1957.  She is one of Ireland's foremost contemporary artists. She has received many awards and prizes, and is a member of Aosdana. A highly regarded landscape painter, Gwen O'Dowd's work has from the beginning focused on the sea and especially on the meeting of water and shoreline. There's more than an echo of the sublime in her majestic vision of nature as the domain of vast, elemental forces. Gwen invariably works in series, and each series is usually linked to a particular motif or feature. She made her Cladach series from 2004 to 2006. Often her titles are in Irish.
