George Stefanescu was born in Plainesti in 1914. He was an important Romanian painter, initially in the style of the post -Impressionists, his work later turned to Expressionism. He was a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, Bucharest and worked for film and theater after the war. Stefanescu held numerous exhibitions at home and abroad and in 1989 moved to Lüdinghausen.
