Joseph Gilardoni (1882-1961) was a painter belonging to the French School of Traveling Painters, known for works inspired by travel and the exploration of distant lands. From 1928 onwards, he took part in the Salons des Indépendants, asserting his presence on the French artistic scene. A close friend of Dunoyer de Segonzac, Gilardoni began his journey to the Far East in 1913, a journey that was to have a profound effect on his career. His works illustrate his interest in everyday life and local cultures, and bear witness to his particular attention to detail and the authenticity of the scenes depicted.
