Julian Joseph, 1882-1964, was born in San Francisco and was still a small child when his father died and his mother relocated to Portland, Oregon with her six children. According to his daughter, Anne Richardson, Julian's interest in art was evident at an early age and remained his entire life.

After high school, he moved to New York City and studied at the Art Student's League* with painter Frank Vincent De Mond and at the National Academy of Design* as well. Two years of intensive study in Europe completed his education, and following extensive Continental travel he returned to New York to exhibit many of his newly created paintings.

Response from the critics was favorable as noted in a 1910 newspaper review: "...every picture proves that he has worked hard and faithfully, that he has accomplished much for one of his years and that his talents reveal themselves in certain elements which count the most in the long run individuality, a fine imagination, a lack of exagger   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1807 characters.]  Artist bio
