The Belgian painter Louis-Pierre Verwée studied painting at the Academy of Kotrijk with Jean-Baptiste de Jonghe until 1824.  Afterwards, he trained with Eugène Verboeckhoven in Ghent, and then in Brussels from 1827.  He was friend with Constant Troyon and Courbet.
