Ludwig Richter

Ludwig Richter (1803 - 1884) was active/lived in Germany.  Ludwig Richter is known for Painting.

Adrian Ludwig Richter was born in Dresden and was first trained by his father, an engraver.  As a draftsman he accompanied Prince Narischkin on his trip to France in 1820.  From 1823 to 1826 Richter worked in Italy, where he mainly followed the leading Nazarene Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872).  Since 1828 he had been employed at the drawing school in Meißen for eight years.  Richter was appointed to the Art Academy in Dresden in 1836, where he became a professor in 1841.

Richter is famous for his pleasant illustrations of German daily life and his humor and variety of motifs finally made him a leading protagonist of his time.  Some of his paintings are now preserved at the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden, the Städelinstitut in Frankfurt and the Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
