From a media release dated December 22, 1987 by April Sgro-Riddle Gallery of Los Angeles for the upcoming solo exhibition:

"Born in Rome in 1927, he lived there until 1969 when he moved to New York City.  He once worked in architecture in Italy and this sense of geometry pervades his paintings.  He is a philosopher of space.  He plays with geometry, constructing ideal realms of juxtaposed squares, triangles, rectangles and grids.  The spaces that he creates flow in different directions constantly breaking up and creating new dimension within the canvas.

Argento has moved away from his early white and grey compositions into color.  It is so incorporated that it is a subject in his work.  He uses a shimmering palette in which the colors are as juxtaposed as his shapes.  Argento creates different moods within each work through his use of color.  He enjoys contrasting the hardness and the aridity   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 7160 characters.]  Artist bio
