Mollie Tureske was born March 10, 1909 in Russia. Within a few years her family moved to the United States and settled in Portland, Maine.

She graduated from Portland High School and the Portland School of Fine Arts. She was awarded the Baxter Scholarship Prize for painting and drawing.   Tureske moved to New York City where she taught art at Stuyvesant House and the Bentley School.  She also had a successful career creating retail window display sculptures for Bergdorf Goodman and other high end retailers.

In 1950, 1951, 1952, she travelled to Paris and other cities in Europe to paint and visit museums.  She was a printmaker at Stanley William Hayter's New York, Atelier 17 in the 1950's.  From 1956 to 1958, she summered in Provincetown, Massachusetts where she studied with Hans Hofmann.  She created set designs for the Provincetown Players as well.
