Belgian artist Pieter Gorus (1881-1941) was a pupil of Jacques Ferdinand and Rosseels Williaert at the Academy of Dendermonde. Gorus was a landscape painter who was at once romantic, realistic and impressionistic. He drew his inspiration from the banks of the Scheldt and Durme. He is one of the best representatives of the last generation of painters Dendermonde, with Léo Spanoghe and Herman Broeckaert. Gorus illustrated the works of Karel Van Woestijne. Pieter Gorus passed away in 1941.
