Vilhelm Theodor Fischer was a student at the Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi (Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen).

Fischer won the Neuhausen Prize three times and in 1894 he commenced work for the Den Kongelige Porcelænsfabrik (Royal Porcelain Factory). It is here that he built his reputation as a painter on porcelain whilst also working in oils.
