Edward Shepard Hewitt, 1877-1962, architect, painter, etcher; born in Brooklyn New York, studied at Columbia, 1896-97, B.S. architecture, 1901. Studied in Paris and Italy between 1901-02 and began as a draughtsman in 1903. He painted independently from 1904 except for the years 1911-16 when he was a member of Hewitt & Bottomley. His work encompasses schools and residences, John Woods homes and Community Gardens, 65th and 66th street NYC; Porchester and Southampton High Schools, Long Island NY; Lake George High School, Lloyd Harbor NY, etc...
Academician member of the National Academy of Design, member of the Salmagundi Club.

As a painter and an etcher, he had a few exhibitions, notably at the National Academy of Design. In 1941, the Harlow Keppel Galleries mounted a one man show of his work. His drypoints were exhibited at the New York Public Library in 1951. The Library of Congress purchased many of his etchings.
