Franz Grassel (1861 - 1948) was active/lived in Germany.  Franz Grassel is known for Painting.

Franz Gräßel attended the class of Conrad Hoff at the Art Academy of Karlsruhe from 1878 to 1884.  During this period he was mainly interested in genre depictions and portraits.  He was a teacher at the Gymnasium of St. Stephan in Straßburg before going on a study trip.  He then continued studying at the Academy in Munich at Wilhelm von Lindenschmit (1886-90).

In 1900 the painter moved to Fürstenfeldbruck, where he was a founding member and chairman of the ‘Brucker’ association of artists.  He was appointed royal academy professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich by Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in 1911.  Works by Gräßel are held by important collections such as the National Gallery Berlin, the Bavarian State Painting Collections in Munich, Nuremberg and Freiburg.
