Bessie Lasky

Bessie Mona Ginsburg Lasky (1888 - 1972) was active/lived in California, New York, Massachusetts.  Bessie Lasky is known for Mission landscape and still life painting, poetry, music.

A painter, born in Boston, MA on April 30, 1888, Bessie Ginsberg was educated in the public schools of Boston and studied at the New England Conservatory of Music. In 1925 she began her art studies with William Silva and Felicie Waldo Howell.

She was active in New York City until the late 1920s; she then settled in Los Angeles with her husband, Jesse L. Lasky, a motion picture magnate.

A poet as well as painter and musician, her book of poems entitled Songs of the Twilight was published in 1935.  She is best known for her series of California mission paintings.

She died in Los Angeles on Aug. 17, 1972.
