Jean Pfister

Jean Jacques Pfister (1878 - 1949) was active/lived in California, Florida / Switzerland.  Jean Pfister is known for Landscape, aviation illustrator, painter, teacher, lecturer.

Painter. Born in Basle, Switzerland on July 10, 1878. Pfister immigrated to the U.S. in 1898 and by 1902 had moved to San Francisco where he studied for three years at the Art Institute. He later studied at the Art School of Bremen, Germany, the ASL and Grand Central School of Art in NYC, and with Wayman Adams. During the 1920s he lived in Laguna Beach where he painted the nearby missions and other California subjects. In 1932 he joined the faculty at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL as associate professor of art and by 1937 held the same postition at Miss Harris College Prep School in Coral Gables, FL. Pfister lived in Florida until shortly before his death in NYC on June 7, 1949. His best known work, We At Daybreak, recording the trans-Atlantic flight of Charles Lindbergh, has been reproduced in many publications. Member: Laguna Beach AA. Exh: Calif.
