Margaret O'Hagan Peterson (1902 - 1997) was active/lived in California, British Columbia / Canada. Margaret Peterson is known for Expressionist genre, illustrator.
Painter, illustrator. Born in Seattle, WA on June 3, 1902. Peterson moved to Berkeley where she earned her M.A. degree at UC. She later studied with Hans Hofmann and Vaclav Vytlacil, and in Paris with André Lhote. She joined the art department at UC in 1928, a position she held until 1950. In 1937 she wed Howard O'Hagan. Until the late 1940s her painting was influenced by Picasso; she then derived her subject matter from Northwest Indian art. In 1956 the O'Hagans moved to Victoria, B.C. Eleven years were spent in Italy on the island of Salina and in 1974 the OHagans returned to Victoria. She died in Sidney, BC on May 15, 1997. Exh: CPLH, 1933, 1960 (solos); Paul Elder Gallery (SF), 1934 (solo); SF Women Artists, 1935 (1st prize), 1936 (2nd prize); San Francisco Art Association, 1937; GGIE, 1939; SFMA, 1939, 1973 (solos); Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, 1953 (solo); Univ. of BC, 1961 (solo).
