Alfons Karpinski

Alfons Karpinski (1875 - 1961) was active/lived in Poland.  Alfons Karpinski is known for Portrait and still life painting.

Polish artist Alfons Karpinski was born in 1875. In the years 1891-1899 he studied at the Krakow School of Fine Arts under Florian Cynek, Izydor Jablonski, Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz and Leon Wyczólkowski, and then he studied with Anton Ažbé in Munich (1903), with Kazimierz Pochwalski in Vienna, and from 1907 in Paris. He traveled to Italy and London. He permanently lived in Krakow; associated with the local community centered around the "Green Balloon" designed decorations for cabaret performances. He belonged to the Polish Artists 'Sztuka', group 'Zero', was a member of the Viennese association 'Secesja' and Krakow's TPSP. He participated in many exhibitions in the country and abroad. During World War I he served in the Austrian Army. The artist's rich creativity consists of early genre scenes from villages near Kraków, landscapes and portraits, especially female portraits, which brought him special popularity.
