Born in 1941 in Worcester, Massachusetts, Bruce Turner became interested in art early in life through the influence of his late father, who had studied at the Columbia School of Art in New York City.  On frequent family visits to the coast, he became intrigued not only with the majesty of the sea, but with the shimmering effects of light upon its surface.  It was this dramatic impression that would be the inspiration of his early painting in the mid 1960's, when he began to concentrate on studying the sea and capturing it's ever changing mood on canvas.  Then, in the spring of 1970, he exhibited his work throughout New York and New England, steadily gaining recognition among his fellow artists and winning numerous awards.
