Carl Von Hanno

Carl Von Hanno (1901 - 1953) was active/lived in Norway, France.  Carl Von Hanno is known for Seascape painting, modernist social realism.

Carl von Hanno is today mostly known for having painted the image Unemployed (1933-34), which has stood as a symbol of contemporary art in the middle of the war. While creating a gloomy picture of social inequalities, von Hanno points out with an aesthetically beautiful workmanship; The combination of cubism and fashion artist makes him unique in Norwegian art history.

Von Hanno grew up in a bourgeois family with versatile art interests and was already registered as a 13-year-old at the Norwegian School of Crafts and Art Industry School (SHKS) evening school. In the fall of 1918 he was attacked by the Spanish sickness and spent one year at Rikshospitalet. Shortly thereafter, he was hit by the tram and set back for the rest of his life.

From 1919-22 he studied at SHKS. Here he met the painter student Doro Nicolaysen, who became his first wife. At the same time, he graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Krohg and Halfdan Strøm 1920-22. Afte   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 4812 characters.]  Artist bio
