Carmen Lombardi was born July 16, 1922 at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was named after his mother, Carmen. He was born into a large family of four brothers and two sisters who resided at a home on 23rd street in Philadelphia. Carmen was mostly self taught. His brothers, Anthony, and Fred, were also painters. In fact, the children's parents thought Anthony was a better painter, so he was sent to Art school in Philadelphia. Carmen was disappointed at this, but kept on painting. And paint he did.

For more than fifty years, he completed well over a thousand oil on canvas works. Carmen, also a former army engineer, who was stationed in Paris during World War Two, emulated the works of post-impressionist French painters he admired, including Matisse, Seurat, Monet, and Gaughin, incorporating their form and intense color into his work.
