Father:  William Fleetwood Shaw from Nottingham, England 

Charles L Shaw originally  was a lace designer. In 1876 he was an artist living on Coburg Road in Nottingham, England where he exhibited a landscape at the Birmingham Society of Artists Exhibition. From 1879 he regularly exhibited at the Local Artists Exhibition in Nottingham.

The paintings exhibited by Shaw were all landscapes in oil, depicting Welsh, Scottish and local scenes. Shaw’s surviving pictures reveal his love of riverside views. Shaw was concerned to capture effects of atmosphere and light on canvas.
