1910-1925
Raised by an absent father and a very loving mother, the young Chaissac will keep great memories of the garden of his childhood. Given his unhealthy and unstable childhood, he does not particularly like school. After unhappy attempts at school, efforts at apprenticeship begin to follow: in turn he will be a kitchen boy, hardware dealer, harness maker and cobbler.

1926 - 1935
Moves in with Georgette, his dear sister in Villapourçon. His precarious health prevents him from doing his military service, which gives him the feeling that he is inferior. The death of his mother who adored him is a very bad experience for Gaston. According to Camille (his wife), he may never have overcome this. Shortly afterwards, the wedding of his sister, whom he admired a lot because she had studied, is a second shock. Years of confusion interrupted by return trips to Paris then follow.

1937- 1940
