Marie Marin was an artist, writer and a sailor. In 1933 he made the voyage from Brest to New York via Madeira and the West Indies under sail. In 1936 he brought the Arielle, a wooden power cruiser 42’7” LOA with a 75 hp diesel engine from New York to Le Havre under power.

He therefore has the unique record of two single-handed Atlantic crossings, westward under sail and Eastward under power, bringing his yacht into port without a mishap in each instance.???

Appointed official painter of French Navy?
