An important Canadian Inuit* draftsman*, printmaker, sculptor and illustrator (see sources), Simon Tookoome (disc number* E2-426) was born near Gjoa Haven, King William Island (near Chantrey Inlet) Keewatin [now Nunavut]. He moved to Baker Lake, Nunavut in 1965, where he lived for the rest of his life and died. He was listed in the Canadian Who’s Who books and is mentioned in two articles of The Canadian Encyclopedia. Hundreds of his works are in over thirty major museum collections such as the British Museum, the Smithsonian Institution (National Museum of the American Indian), the Canadian Museum of History, and the National Gallery of Canada.
