Tom Hold (1843-?)

The eldest son of Thomas and Mary Hold, Tom was born in 1843 in Barnsley and is thought to be the brother of painters John Hold, Abel Hold and Ben Hold.  All four of these Victorian artist specialized wildlife, birds and sometimes birds nests with eggs.  Mr. Tom Hold was also a carver and gilder.  

Given the information on the back of his paintings, it is believed he spent most of his life in the Westgate Barnsley area in the United Kingdom.  He was one of nine children, six brothers and three sisters.

Addendum from the great, great, great grandson of Tom Hold

Tom Hold wasn't the son of Thomas and Mary Hold, but their grandson. He was the eldest son of Abel Hold (1815-96) and Sarah Miller, and his brothers were as you say Ben and John, but Abel Miller (not to be confused with his dad).
