German painter and graphic artist Gottfried Korner was born in 1927 in Werdau.

Korner's first apprenticeship as a lithographer.  He then served in the military from 1945-51.  He freelanced in Werdau.

From 1951-56 he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Dresden. He was a member of the association of visual artists Artists (VBK) of the GDR, active in Dresden.
