Max K. Elias (b. 1940, Iowa City, Iowa)

The son of Maxim M. Elias,  he followed in his father's footsteps as a sculptor.  Whereas his father favored sculpting in wood, Max preferred sculpting in metal, often transforming single sheets of steel into complex sculptural animals, inspects, birds, and other figures.  In addition to his vocational studies to develop his welding and sculpting skills, he studied at George Washington University and with Robert Gates at American University.  He was widely exhibited throughout the country from the 1960s through the 1990s.  Notable exhibitions venues include The Smithsonian/National Collection of Fine Arts in Washington DC, and the Couturier Gallery in Los Angeles, CA.
