Michael Kienzer attended the Graz School of Applied Arts and then studied at the University of Applied Arts under Bruno Gironcoli. 

In his work he deals with objects, installations and drawings and addresses concepts such as space, time, surface and compression.

From 2005 to 2006, Kienzer taught as a visiting professor for art and communicative practice at the Institute for Fine and Media Art at the University of Applied Sciences.

Kienzer's world is a world of things and their order as well as their semantic examination. His view is a pragmatic one, tapping the double bottoms and pointing out back doors, whether he uses them or not. If the intervention is successful, the context is shifted, there is an interaction of meanings, the architectural or institutional framework becomes a double bottom, a system of its own emerges for the moment of observation. (Peter Pakesch 2008)
