Blanchard is a prominent water colorist whose work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in many private collections on three continents.

A professional background based in commercial art, including advertising, magazine illustration and courtroom drawing for a local television station in Austin, has made Mr. Blanchard very conscious of the ways to evoke a response from the viewers of his art. In his own words, "What I am looking for is the intensity of the response. It is usually going to be either very positive or very negative, and I can live with both. I produce images that a viewer can interpret in any way they wish. And that alone is a valid reason for that image to exist.
