Frederick Charles Vipont Ede, from Nottoway, Virginia (b. 22 February 1865) seems to have studied for some time before he went to Paris, where he became a pupil of Tony Robert-Fleury and William Adolphe Bouguereau. 

A landscape exhibited in Montreal in 1891 won a first prize. Also, at that time he received a medal from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Very little is known of Ede's career, for it seems that he spent most of it in France. However, while he did receive some recognition in the 1890s, subsequently, his work was seldom exhibited in America. 

A few extant paintings overflow with a wonderful plein air freshness and a style that recalls that of Dennis Miller Bunker. Other than his French teachers, influences on Ede's style are unknown. He was a competent, delicate, and subtle painter.
