Stanislaw Podgórski graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków in 1909. He studied with Florian Cynk, Leon Wyczólkowski and Jan Stanislawski. In 1906 he received the Jan Matejko academic scholarship, which allowed him to study in Paris, where he attended the Colarossi Academy, in the class of Christian Krogh. From Paris, he often travelled to Brittany for plein-air painting. He also visited Italy, Switzerland and Germany. In his painting, he limited himself almost exclusively to landscape. As a student of Jan Stanislawski, he remained under the clear influence of the landscape school he had created. He often created large canvases in plein-air. He painted both summer and winter landscapes. He used a wide range of colours. Podgórski's landscape scenes are striking in their sketchiness. He depicted objects rather flatly and often in outline, omitting details. The artist also often narrowed down the colour scheme.
