Erwin Kroner of the Düsseldorf School was the son of the hunting painter Christian Kröner.  From 1906 to 1918 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Eduard von Gebhard, Willy Spatz, Adolf Münzner and Ludwig Keller.

From 1915-1918 he was part of the master class of Willy Spatz.

In 1912 Kroner took a trip to the Caucasus, southern Russia and Turkey.

In 1918 he participated in the great Berlin art exhibition.

1924 Kroner took a trip to Greece, the Balkans and southern Italy.
