"Montminy Gallery celebrates 100th birthday of prolific, progressive namesake"

Up on a ladder perches a young woman, frowning with concentration at the massive wall in front of her. Paintbrushes in hand, she works with determination, soon blanketing the wall with sweeping strokes of color. It is the decade of the Great Depression, and the woman is one of many artists marked to serve the country and earn a living by painting for the Works Progress Administration.

This scene is but one of many in the vivid and intriguing life of Tracy Montminy, a former professor of art at the University of Missouri who would have celebrated her 100th birthday in June, were she still alive.
