Will Clift

Will Clift (Born 1978) is active/lives in New Mexico.  Will Clift is known for Abstract linear sculpture.

Artist Statement:
Form, gravity, and balance are all equally my medium. Their interplay in my sculptures reveals the tension between motion and stillness, order and disorder. The result is a dynamic equilibrium that can capture a sense of movement and gesture in a static form.

Each sculpture is an assembly of parts that intersect and rest against each other without the use of glue or nails. Each part depends upon every other to be held in tension and in balance, and each contributes to the structure and stability of the whole.

While the form of each of my sculptures exists mostly within a single plane, each also extends into the third dimension, capturing space and enabling light to play. Its three-dimensionality is also emphasized by shadows that can serve as a faint but distinct reminder of the form, offset from the piece itself, as harmony is to a melody.
