William Hugh Ferguson

William Hugh Ferguson (1905 - 1985) was active/lived in Pennsylvania.  William Ferguson is known for Surreal still life, figure, fantasy.

Born and died in Reading, Pennsylvania, William Ferguson became a painter and teacher, working in the surrealist style. He studied in Paris and studied and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He also exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago.

William Ferguson died in 1985 in Reading, Pennsylvania. One famous directory lists his death as 1964, but this is wrong.

His paintings are in the collections of the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy of Art, and the Reading, Pennsylvania Museum. Recently I found two of his Christ paintings in a 1994 Guide to Paintings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

He participated in many exhibitions but lost his sight in the his early 50s, and therefore did not receive the celebrity reputation   ...  [Displaying 1000 of 1098 characters.]  Artist bio
