ZZ Wei

Z.Z. Wei (Born 1957) is active/lives in Washington / China.  ZZ Wei is known for Nostalgic Northwest landscape.

Born in Beijing in 1957 during the Cultural Revolution Z.Z. Wei had to wait until 1984 before he could apply to the painting department of the Central Institute of Arts and Design.

In 1989 he came to the United States at the invitation of the Washington State Centennial Committee for the Pacific Rim Cultural Communication Project. He became the artist in residence at the host College, Cornish College for the Arts, in Seattle. In 1991 he was the artist in residence for Whitman College in Walla Walla. He now lives with his wife and two children in a home overlooking Puget Sound near Seattle.

It was in Walla Walla that he became inspired by the Northwest landscape of rolling fields. Wei paints large oil landscapes in a palette of golds, deep reds, blues and brown that reminisce of an earlier time. His work often has a vintage 1930s car rolling over the hills and puffy white clouds in the sky.
