Christopher (Chris) Foss

Christopher (Chris) Foss (Born 1946) was active/lived in United Kingdom.  Christopher Foss is known for Illustrator and painter-science fiction.

A science fiction book illustrator whose work featured "vast, colourful spaceships, machines and cities, often marked with mysterious symbols" and usually devoid of human figures, Chris Foss worked for several very well-known authors including Isaac Asimov, Edmund Cooper, Ian Gillan Band and E.E. "Doc" Smith Lensman.  He also did illustrations for the widely selling book, The Joy of Sex, based on original photographs of the book's art director and his wife.

His own book, Diary of a Spaceperson, was published in 1990 and contained many of his paintings and sketches including nudes of women.

Foss was born in Devon, England and studied art with a grant at a boarding school in Dorset.  To satisfy his family who did not want him to be an artist, he went to Cambridge University to study architecture, but quickly became disinterested.  He said: "Architects have absolutely NO intuition of the use of colours or shapes."
