Herman De Vries

Herman De Vries (Born 1931) is active/lives in Holland.  Herman De Vries is known for Painting and sculpture.

The Dutch artist Herman de Vries has made a name for himself through his continuous exploration of natural themes and the resulting dichotomy between chaos and order. The exploration of the principles of chance arising from nature has been a lifelong motivation for him. The work on offer here, dating from 1967, is a monochromatic, white-on-white relief: Smaller squares overlap, cast shadows, protrude into the three-dimensional space and evoke a push and pull effect on the viewer. Herman de Vries was part of the Dutch Informel movement and was loosely associated with the "nul" group, which preceded the German ZERO movement. In 2015, he represented the Netherlands at the Vendig Biennale. He lives and works in Franconia.
