Johann Liss (1590 - 1631) was active/lived in Germany.  Johann Liss is known for Painting, colorist, mythical, Biblical, genre scenes.

Johann Liss Oldenburg 1597 - 1631 Verona, German artist Johann Liss in Venice, Liss’s short life was spent far from his German homeland. He started as a young artist in Holland in about 1615, particularly Amsterdam and Haarlem, then travelled to Antwerp, where he encountered the works of Rubens and Jordaens. Passing next through Paris, Liss settled in Venice in the early 1620s where he was introduced to the Venetian traditions established by Titian and Tintoretto, among others, as well as the work of his contemporary, Domenico Fetti.

Liss was likely in Rome between about 1622-1625 where he joined the Bentvueghels, a confraternity of Northern painters, thereafter returning to Venice for much of the remainder of his career, dying in 1631 soon after arriving in Verona in an attempt to escape the plague. That little documentation of Liss’s career exists makes a chronology of his output somewhat difficult.
