Alessandro Tiarini

Alessandro Tiarini (1577 - 1668) was active/lived in Italy.  Alessandro Tiarini is known for Painting and sculpture.

Alessandro Tiarini was born in Bologna in 1577 and trained with Prospero Fontana, the father of his godmother Lavinia Fontana. He was one of the most successful artists in Emilia during the first half of the seventeenth century. Tiarini's artwork is characterized by a sense of monumentality and large figures with bold, forceful gestures. His style contrasted with the smooth, classical typologies popularized by his contemporary Guido Reni. The present painting is a mature work by Tiarini, dated to between 1615 and the early-1620s or mid-1620s. During this phase of his career, Tiarini combined the coherent plasticity of Passignano and other Tuscan reformers with the rich luminism and dramatic clarity found in Ludovico Carracci's best works. It is the works from this part of Tiarini's career that rank among his finest.
