Louis Van Boeckel

Louis Van Boeckel (1857 - 1944) was active/lived in Belgium.  Louis Van Boeckel is known for Floral design, animal, birds and snake sculpture.

Amongst the lush greenery of the municipal park stands artist blacksmith Louis Van Boeckel. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death Anne-Marie Volders created a statue that emanates vitality and strength.

In 1900 Van Boeckel was among the best in the world at his craft and achieved distinction at the World Fair in Paris.

In addition to ornaments, he also designed chandeliers, bas-reliefs, banisters, railings, lantern armatures, pumps and signs. His work belongs to the romantic period but he also used elements of Jugendstil.

Pieces of his ornamental metalwork are to be seen throughout Lier and throughout the world. His body of work abroad includes the white fence of the White House in Washington DC and the doors of the National Bank in Athens.

Along with watchmaker Louis Zimmer, painter Isidore Opsomer and author Felix Timmermans, the four artists were known as the Klavertje vier van Lier, the four-leaf clover of Lier.
