Donald Mackay Houstoun was a painter, illustrator, designer and muralist who was born in Stevenson, Ontario and lived in Toronto, Elora, Georgetown, Markham, Stouffville and Brampton, Ontario.  His mediums were oil, lucite, acrylics, collage, pencil, mixed mediums and watercolor.  His subjects were landscapes, still life and abstracts, all notable for their bright colors. His styles were representational, fauvism, expressionism and abstraction.

He studied at the Western Technical School (Toronto) under L.A.C.Panton, H.C. Clarke and C. Griffin.  He was also on the freelance staff of the Ontario College of Art.
